No work can be commenced without the authority of the Warranty Direct claims department. Any work that is completed without authority will not be covered.
The claims department has the right to examine the vehicle and to ask an independent expert to assess the breakdown before the repairer can start any repairs.

- The one-off cost of a four-year warranty (which can have a cooling-off period of just 14-28 days from point of purchase) can be as high as 50% of the cost of the item itself.
- Extended Warranties account for nearly 30% of the annual profits for some electrical retailers.
- Policies sold at the till are subject to a Treasury boosting 17.5% Insurance Premium Tax. Cover bought from alternative suppliers is only subject to a 5% tax levy.
- Some electrical goods are simply not worth taking extra cover on - despite the overtures of the retailer. However, a washing machine will need repairing three times on average during its 8-10 year life span. That's when cover is worth it.
